City Kidz and Cornell University Partner on Combining College Dreams and Ice Creams

City Kidz Ice Cream café in downtown Jacksonville is collaborating with Cornell University to provide local middle and high school students’ access to an innovative Food Science Program.  The program, hosted by Clinton Bush of City Kidz, is a Cornell approved curriculum that teaches the students about Food Science in a hands on workshop.  The program culminates in the students own Ice Cream being marketed and sold at local Publix and Winn Dixie stores.

Four Duval County Public Schools will Receive Solar Electric Emergency Shelter Power Systems

Four Duval County Public Schools have recently been selected to receive solar electric emergency shelter power systems as part of the SunSmart Schools E-Shelter (Emergency Shelter) program.

The selected schools are LaVilla School of the Arts, Abess Park Elementary, Arlington Middle and Chets Creek Elementary.

Cultural Center Art and Essay Contest

Duval County Public Schools (DCPS) recently partnered with the Amity Turkish Cultural Center for their 2nd annual art and essay contest for middle and high school students. The contest aims to promote awareness, understanding and positive interactions among different cultures and communities. This year’s theme was “Empathy: Walking in Another’s Shoes.”

Duval County Schools Acceleration Programs Recruitment Events

High School Acceleration Programs are available in every Duval County public high school to provide advanced educational opportunities to students throughout the county. Students are urged to review the program offerings and attend one or more information session or open house to learn more about enrollment and how the programs can better prepare students for post-secondary education.

High School Students: Time to Enter Manatee Art Contest

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) invites high school art students across the state to participate in a contest to create a piece of manatee artwork that will be used on the 2011-2012 manatee decal.

Students in grades 9-12 in Florida should coordinate with their school’s art teacher to submit the artwork, because each school may submit no more than five entries. Home-schooled students also are eligible to enter the contest. Contest details and forms are available online at MyFWC.com/Manatee.
