Man dies after being struck by SUV | News

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A man has died after being struck by an SUV while crossing the street in his electric wheelchair.

According to Sgt. Donald Washington Jr. of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office traffic homicide unit, a white SUV was traveling southbound on Edgewood Avenue near Trask Street when the SUV struck the man.

Washington said it was getting dark at the time of the incident and the vehicle had a green light. The man did not cross the street at a crosswalk.

The man on the wheelchair was transported to Shands Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver has not yet been charged, as JSO is still investigating.The driver stopped to talk to police after the incident.
