 Friday, February 3, 2012 is National Wear Red Day and February is American Heart Month. The American Heart Association- First Coast Market is participating in and/or hosting a number of public events listed below. Why is this important? The Facts are Clear– More women die of heart disease than all forms of cancer combined. Unfortunately, the killer isn’t as easy to see. Many times heart disease is often silent, hidden and misunderstood.

The American Lung Association’s State of Tobacco Control 2012 report was released today. The report showed that Florida received mixed grades on important tobacco issues, such as smoking cessation coverage and smokefree air laws. 

With the start of flu season here, it’s time to start thinking about staying healthy. Nothing can ruin the holidays like a bad case of the flu. Memorial Hospital Medical Director Dr. Gary Winfield says the best thing you can do is get a flu shot. “The flu shot is our best weapon against the flu,” Dr. Winfield said. “It can prevent you from getting the flu, or if you do get it, it can make your symptoms less severe.”
