Movies in the Park

April 8, 15 and 29

Downtown Jacksonville’s series is returning to historic Treaty Oak Park Fridays in the spring. Hosted by Downtown Vision, Inc. and JaxParks, the series features four family-friendly movies shown under the stars, each beginning at dusk (around 8 p.m.) on the land that once served as the setting for numerous silent films. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs and picnic dinners ordered “to-go” from one of the many Downtown restaurants.  April 8 – Cars, April 15 – The Neverending Story, April 29 – Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory.

Mayor's Annual Fish-A-Thon for Senior Citizens Canceled

The Mayor’s Annual Fish-A-Thon for senior citizens has been canceled due to anticipated inclement weather. The event was scheduled to be held Wednesday, March 30, at Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. for residents 60 years of age and over. Calling All Seniors for Mayor's Annual Fish-A-Thon

Duval County residents 60 years of age and over are invited to join in the fun of the Mayor’s Fish-a-Thon.  The highly anticipated annual event will feature fishing, games, lunch and an awards ceremony with trophies for most fish, largest fish, smallest fish, ugliest fish and prettiest fish.

Tax Day Tea Party Rally at The Landing, April 15

Two years ago on April 15, 2009, the Tea Party Movement was birthed in North Florida.  More than 5,000 new friends showed up at the Jacksonville Landing with their personal messages on hand-made signs and a look of fear and concern on their faces.

6th Annual Stop Teen Underage Drinking  Rally Today in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --  Students from all of Duval county's public high schools are participating in the Stop Teenage Underage Drinking (S.T.U.D.) Rally.

The event addresses issues relating to underage drinking and lifestyle choices that teens face on a daily basis.

The S.T.U.D. Rally begins at 7 A.M. at the Morocco Shrine Auditorium.

Household Hazardous and E-waste Mobile Collection Event this Weekend

The City of Jacksonville Solid Waste Division hosts a series of six household hazardous waste and electronic waste (e-waste) mobile collection events throughout the city each year.  The third in the 2011 series takes place this Saturday.
