The Salvation Army of NE Florida Assists Alabama

The Salvation Army of NE Florida has deployed 2 mobile canteens and a team of volunteers and staff to help assist in the relief and recovery efforts in areas most affected from recent storms.

The Salvation Army canteen (kitchens on wheels) from Jacksonville left on Saturday, April 30 to assist with disaster relief and recovery in the raven stricken areas of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Disaster volunteers from Jacksonville are assisting the Jacksonville canteen. Staff and volunteers from The Salvation Army Orlando Area Command are manning the St. Augustine canteen which traveled to Birmingham, Alabama on Saturday to assist victims and emergency personnel affected by the recent storms. Salvation Army deployments are typically 14 days.

Record-breaking Year for the Walk to Cure Diabetes

The Walk to Cure Diabetes, presented by CSX, GATE Foundation, Lender Processing Services, and Vistakon, took place on April 9 at the Jacksonville Fairgrounds and set a number of unprecedented records this year for the North Florida Chapter. With more than 1,000 new walkers since last year, this year’s total attendance increased to an astonishing 6,000 walkers!  In addition, the North Florida Chapter has already raised over $525,000 from the recent event and is hopeful that its goal of $575,000 will be exceeded by the end of June. All proceeds from the Walk will support research vital to finding a cure for type 1 diabetes and its complications.

Youth ChalleNGe Foundation to Accept $10,000 Donation for Camp Blanding Academy

The Florida Youth ChalleNGe Foundation - the fundraising arm of the Florida Youth ChalleNGe Academy - will accept a $10,000 donation from Compass Foundation, Inc. at the Youth ChalleNGe campus.  Former Adjutant General of Florida Maj. Gen. Douglas Burnett (Honorary Chairman of the Board for the Youth ChalleNGe Foundation) will accept the check on behalf of the Youth ChalleNGe Foundation from Kevin Allen of Compass Foundation, Inc.

Jacksonville ASPCA Needs Your Votes in the National $100K Challenge

The City of Jacksonville is now in 10th place for the national ASPCA $100K challenge! 

This is an online voting event and 93 agencies qualified to participate in the challenge. Jacksonville went from 68th, to 37th and as of today, Jacksonvile is number 10. 

Jacksonville has until Friday to collect enough votes to reach the number one spot and people can vote every single day.

Animal Care & Protective Services Part of ASPCA $100K Challenge

The City of Jacksonville’s Animal Care and Protective Services (ACPS) Division is one of 93 agencies across the nation participating in the qualifying heat of this year’s ASPCA $100K Challenge. ACPS is competing for grants totaling $300,000 from the ASPCA, including a top prize of $100,000.

The 2011 ASPCA $100K Challenge is a nationwide competition for animal shelters, and their communities, aiming to get more animals adopted or returned to their owners than ever before. The first phase is the qualifying heat, during which participating shelters compete to accumulate the most online votes from their supporters. The 50 shelters with the most votes become the official contestants for the 2011 ASCPA $100K Challenge.
