Save Our Sports in Duval County Telethon

The Save Our Sports In Duval County Campaign is designed to raise the funds needed to re-implement the high school sports that have been cut due to budget constraints by the Duval County Public School (DCPS) system for the next school year. On June 29, Sports Talk Radio 1010XL in partnership with DCPS, and several local sports organizations will be holding a telethon to solicit donations to save the twelve high school sports that have been cut - boys and girls junior varsity soccer, boys and girls lacrosse, boys and girls tennis, boys and girls cross country, boys and girls golf, wrestling, and slow pitch softball.

In addition, each sports foundation is holding additional fund raisers to benefit the saving of their sport.

The first is being held this Saturday evening by Jacksonville United FC's National Premiere Soccer League team.  Jacksonville United FC will donate proceeds from their  game against the Knoxville Force on June 25 to the Save Our Sports fundraising effort.  Proceeds from ticket sales and all donations made at the game will go toward funding boys’ and girls’ junior varsity high school soccer programs in Duval County.  The game will be played at 7 PM at Mandarin High School (4831 Greenland Road Jacksonville, FL 32258).

In addition, donations to help save the junior varsity soccer programs can be made online at http://www.jacksonvilleunited.com/2011/06/help-jufc-save-our-sports/.  This game has also been designated as North Florida Youth Soccer night and all NFY players wearing their team jersey will be admitted free of charge.  Ticket prices at the gate are $10 for adults and $5 for youth.  Group discounts are available if purchased prior to the game online at http://www.jacksonvilleunited.com/npsl-pro-team/tickets/.
