MOSH LEGO® Competition Winners Announced

More than 100 contestants battled it out at the Museum of Science & History’s LEGO Competition held today.  The contestants, which included kindergartners through 9th graders, worked in teams or as individuals to construct original LEGO designs.  The top prize winners included a farmhouse, a moveable bridge and a spaceship.

The Celebrated War of 1812 Tall Ship LYNX Arriving in Jacksonville

All law-abiding and loyal citizens are urged to be vigilant and alert to the presence on your coast of the weatherly, fast, and heavily armed Clipper Schooner Lynx. The 122-foot square top sail schooner Lynx will be sailing into Jacksonville for the first time on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at 11:00 am. Join the flotilla as she fires a salute from her main battery of 6-pounder carronades upon her grand entrance into Jacksonville.  The celebrated War of 1812 privateer square top sail schooner has arrived on the East Coast from Hawai’i & California and is scheduled for a five-year mission along the East Coast of the United States and Canada and will be participating  in the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812 and the Star-Spangled Banner.

FREE Day at MOSH!

Parents looking for ways to stretch a dollar in this challenging economy are in luck.  On Saturday, February 5, the Museum of Science & History will partner with St. Johns River Water Management District and the City of Jacksonville Environmental Protection Board to host the annual Water Education Festival, a free admission day.

The Jacksonville Symphony Guild’s 2011 Designer Showhouse location has been announced at the Coxwell Estate, a 17-acre property located at 9433 Coxwell Lane in Jacksonville. The Showhouse will feature a variety of fundraising events to benefit the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra. The theme of this year’s Showhouse is “Southern Grandeur” which typifies the expansive two-story residence that sits on a gated estate with entryway featuring a large, natural stone and nature-themed fountain with lawns, nature areas and natural streams.

What's New in Jacksonville, Fla. Winter/Spring 2011

Winter in Jacksonville is mild, and spring temperatures and festivals are just around the corner.  This season, visitors to Northeast Florida get excited about an inaugural lacrosse tournament, The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens 50th Anniversary celebration, the new Aloft Jacksonville Tapestry Park – Jacksonville’s first LEED certified hotel and new diverse activities and experiences. 

High School Students: Time to Enter Manatee Art Contest

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) invites high school art students across the state to participate in a contest to create a piece of manatee artwork that will be used on the 2011-2012 manatee decal.

Students in grades 9-12 in Florida should coordinate with their school’s art teacher to submit the artwork, because each school may submit no more than five entries. Home-schooled students also are eligible to enter the contest. Contest details and forms are available online at MyFWC.com/Manatee.
